SweethomeeNorth Indian winters arrive fast. One week you need the AC, the next you are looking for the blanket box. Whether to buy a comforter or a fleece blanket depends on how cold your room gets and how often you want to wash it.
Comforter vs fleece blanket
Here is the honest comparison:
| Comforter | Fleece blanket | |
|---|---|---|
| Build | Fabric shell with fibre filling | Single layer of fleece |
| Warmth | More, good for cold nights | Light, good for mild cold and AC |
| Weight | Puffy, medium weight | Very light, folds small |
| Washing | Less often, needs space to dry | Easy, dries fast |
| Travel | Bulky | Easy to carry |
When to pick a comforter
If your room gets properly cold in December and January, a comforter is the main layer. Our Flowa single bed comforter has a soft glace cotton shell with fibre filling, so it is warm without being heavy, and the floral print doubles as a bed cover in the day.
When a fleece blanket is enough
For AC rooms, mild winters, an extra layer on the sofa or a train journey, a fleece blanket is the easiest choice. Ours is a single bed size of 60 × 90 inches in polar fleece and micro mink. It is light, soft and washes easily.
Why many homes keep both
- Use the fleece blanket in October, November and late February.
- Bring out the comforter in peak winter, with the fleece on top on the coldest nights.
- Keep a fleece blanket in the car or for guests all year.
Frequently asked questions
Is a comforter warmer than a fleece blanket?
Yes. A comforter has fibre filling inside, so it traps more warmth. A fleece blanket is a single light layer, better for mild cold and AC rooms.
What size is a single bed fleece blanket?
Our single bed fleece blanket is 60 × 90 inches.
Can I use a fleece blanket in an AC room in summer?
Yes. Fleece is light enough for AC use all year and also works as a travel blanket.
How should I store a comforter after winter?
Air it in the sun, make sure it is fully dry, and store it in a breathable cotton bag.
