SweethomeeWhen people call us about artificial grass, the first question is always about height. 25, 35 or 45 millimetres sounds like a small difference, but on a balcony floor you can see and feel it. All three of our grass carpets are the same durable polyester blend with drainage holes. The difference is the pile, the length of the blades.
What pile height means
Pile height is how tall the grass blades stand from the base. Taller blades look thicker and feel softer under bare feet. Shorter blades stand up straighter under heavy foot traffic and are easier to sweep.
25mm vs 35mm vs 45mm
Use this as a starting point. Price goes up with height because there is more fibre in every square foot.
| 25mm | 35mm | 45mm | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Look | Neat, trimmed lawn | Full, natural lawn | Thick, lush lawn |
| Feel underfoot | Firm | Soft | Softest |
| Heavy foot traffic | Best | Good | Fine at home |
| Easy to sweep | Easiest | Easy | Needs a brush |
| Good for | Shop entrance, office, stairs | Balcony, terrace, kids' play area | Lawn look, photo corners, events |
Which one would we pick?
- Balcony at home: 35mm. It looks like real grass and still handles chairs and plant pots.
- Office or shop entrance: 25mm. People walk on it all day, and it is easy to keep clean.
- Terrace party corner or garden look: 45mm. It photographs well and feels great barefoot.
If you are confused between two, go one size taller for home and one size shorter for commercial use.
Laying it and keeping it clean
- Lay it on a flat, clean surface. A dusty floor under the grass will show bumps.
- Join two pieces with the blades running in the same direction.
- Water drains through the holes, so you can wash it in place.
- Brush it against the grain every few weeks to keep the blades standing up.
Frequently asked questions
Which artificial grass is best for a balcony?
35mm is the best all-rounder for a home balcony. It looks natural, feels soft, and handles chairs and pots.
Is 25mm artificial grass too thin?
No. 25mm is the best choice for high foot traffic like shop entrances and offices, because the shorter blades stay upright and are easy to sweep.
Can artificial grass be used outdoors in the rain?
Yes. Our grass carpets are water-resistant and have drainage holes, so rain water passes through.
How do I clean artificial grass at home?
Sweep or vacuum loose dust, wash with water when needed, and brush it against the grain to lift the blades.
