Living room carpet size guide
The most common carpet mistake is buying it too small. Here's how to measure before you order.

SweethomeeWhen a carpet returns to us, it's usually not because of the colour or quality. It's the size. A 3×5 carpet looks big in the photo, then sits like a doormat in the middle of a big hall. So take a measuring tape before you take your phone out. Five minutes of measuring saves a return.
Carpet size chart by room
Our carpets come in feet. Here's what each size usually suits:
| Size | In cm (approx.) | Fits |
|---|---|---|
| 3×5 ft | 90×150 cm | Bedside, in front of a 2-seater sofa, pooja corner |
| 4×6 ft | 120×180 cm | Under a centre table, a small living room |
| 5×7 ft | 150×210 cm | Living room with a 3-seater sofa, foot of a king bed |
| 6×9 ft | 180×270 cm | Large hall, L-shaped sofa, a full seating area |
How to measure your room
- Sofa rule: the carpet should be wider than the centre table, and the front legs of the sofa should sit on it or just touch it.
- Bed rule: for the foot of the bed, the carpet should be about as wide as the bed. For both sides, use two 3×5 carpets.
- Leave a border: keep about 1 to 1.5 feet of floor showing around the carpet. Wall-to-wall looks cramped.
- Test with paper: lay newspaper or a bedsheet folded to the size on the floor. You'll know in a minute if it looks right.

BCF floor carpet: the easy everyday choice
BCF carpets are lightweight and foldable, so you can roll one up for a function, put it in the store room in summer, or move it to the guest room. They're easy to clean and come in traditional and modern designs, from 3×5 up to 6×9 feet. For a small doormat in the same material, there's a 38×58 BCF doormat too.
Shaggy carpets for softness
If you want to sink your feet in, go shaggy. Glossy looks rich in a living room and popcorn suits kids' rooms. Both come in 3×5, 4×6 and 5×7 feet, in Beige, Blue, Coffee, Grey and Red. Full comparison here: popcorn vs glossy shaggy.
Artificial grass for balcony and terrace
For a balcony or terrace, a 25mm artificial grass carpet gives a green, garden look that survives rain. It has drainage holes, comes in widths of 2, 3.25, 4 and 6.5 feet and lengths from 5 to 45 feet, and you can cut it with scissors to fit corners. Compare heights in our 25mm vs 35mm vs 45mm grass guide.
